ABOUT ME
I am a counsellor in training with a relaxed and gentle way of working. I am interested in the way that language, art, stories, and lived experience reveal what it means to be human. I think counselling can be a space to tend to what is changing, hurting, or asking to be understood even before it turns into a crisis.
I am in the early stages of my training. I have a sound theoretical background and am making my fist experiences with clients. You can book with me if you need help navigating relationships, self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, or other things that are hard to explain. You do not need to know exactly what the problem is before booking. You also do not need to be articulate or sure that what you bring is “serious enough.”
I am happy to work with anyone who comes my way, and may be especially suited to work with young adults, students, academics, and expats. I can speak English and Spanish in my sessions.
MY APPROACH
to counselling
My counselling is grounded in rogerian person-centered counselling, occasionally using tools from cognitive behavioural therapy, especially acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Rogerian person-centered counselling works well for promoting personal growth and addressing topics related to self-esteem, identity, relationships, emotional awareness, decision-making, incongruence, or feeling inadequate. You might consider working with me if you are struggling with any of these experiences. Rogerian person-centered counselling also works well if it is important for you not to feel categorised or interpreted by your therapist. My approach prioritises your own lived experience over expert explanation or diagnostic framing. The way I work is exploratory and collaborative, bringing in cognitive behavioural tools when you and I, together, arrive at the need to use them. For this reason, I may not be the best fit if you are looking for immediate advice, a highly directive approach or a diagnosis.
If you are interested, you can read more about what counselling sessions are like on our blog post on the subject.
BOOK WITH ME IF...
Below you can find a longer list of topics that can I address in my sessions. Beyond these, you can book with me if you are not sure where to begin, or if you feel that what you are going through is difficult to explain.
You may also feel comfortable working with me if you are shy, afraid of being judged, or unsure whether your problem is “serious enough” for therapy. I try to create a space where you do not have to perform clarity, confidence, or emotional certainty.
I also encourage you to book with me if you want support without feeling that someone else is taking over the meaning of your experience. I try to follow your language and pace, while offering reflections or tools when they genuinely help.
Some topics I can address in my practice are:
-
Life transitions
-
Identity
-
Difficulty understanding your own emotions
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Questions of meaning, direction, or uncertainty
-
Feeling different, fragmented, or hard to explain
-
Stress
-
Relational difficulties
-
Self-esteem
-
Cultural adaptation
-
Anxiety
What these difficulties may sound like:
-
“I know something is wrong, but I can’t put it into words. I feel disconnected from myself.”
-
“I don’t know whether I chose this degree because I want it or because it’s what my family expects.”
-
“I’m exhausted, but I feel that if I slow down, I’ll disappoint everyone.”
-
“I always give in to avoid conflict, but then I feel resentful and invisible.”
-
“I feel like I’m never good enough. Even when people say I’ve done well, I still feel worthless.”
-
“There are parts of myself I feel ashamed of, and I think I have to hide them to be loved.”
-
"I feel very overwhelmed by my PhD."
EXPERIENCES
that shaped me
I have been trained in the Netherlands, in the University of Groningen. As you can read below, I have been curious from the beginning about understanding people and the mind from different angles: philosophy, neuroscience and psychology. As such, I am very comfortable using scientific methods to approach the mind and the brain while at the same time I fully believe that reflecting about first-person experience is a legitimate source of knowledge about what it means to be human and how to help ourselves and other people. I am also sensitive to the ways in which language, culture and power shape how we comprehend ourselves and others.
Alongside my counselling work, I am active in the European youth field, where I am a researcher and a translator at the meeting point of research, policy, and practice. This work is intercultural and often involves bringing together different professional worlds, values, expectations, and ways of thinking. It has strengthened my ability to facilitate reflection and support learning in ways that are empowering rather than prescriptive.
RATES
I offer my counselling sessions on a donation basis. There is no fixed fee, and your ability to donate does not affect your access to the session.
For those who find it helpful to have a reference point, a suggested donation is €25 per session. You are welcome to contribute less, more, or nothing, depending on your circumstances.
The initial consultation is donation-free. I prefer not to receive donations for this initial conversation, as it is intended as a no-pressure space to explore your needs and see whether working together feels right.
